Another Year Over...

Christmas
Everyone was so generous! I received the photo printer I really wanted and a second bowl for my mixer. Ed got the shop vac and collapsible saw horses he needs to finish the the work on the house. He also got a Carhartt jacked that he really needed for work from Cathie & Dave. Even Justice got some presents - rawhides, greenies, etc.
We are so sorry that we could not see everyone. Keep your fingers crossed, we may be back in Michigan by next Christmas!

Just one week....
We got some snow over the weekend. It is a little ridiculous around here. It was only a few inches and they called a Level 1 snow emergency telling people to stay off the roads. I guess the grocery stores were packed and the people were rude and the shelves got emptied. I just stayed at home and laughed at the entire population of Ohio.

Holiday Spirit
We did some gift shopping yesterday. It helped a little, but not a lot - at least not enough for me to decorate! However, I did pull out some of my holiday cookie recipes and will be getting started on that this week/weekend.
Not a lot of news to report. Will update later.

Sorry that it has been so long...
1. Ed's mom is teaching in Japan. We have spoken to her a couple of times and she should be home in November. Ed's dad recently went over for a visit.
2. My dad had 2 surgeries on his left elbow. He has been off of work for a pretty long time and will begin work again in November. He is freaking me out because he is starting to talk about his will, estate, funeral arrangements, etc. I know that this has to be done, but I am not quite ready to talk about it.
3. My mom had surgery on the 25th. It was on one of her wrists, I just do not remember which one. She is still waiting to hear about an offer to settle on her potential lawsuit. If they do not hurry, I am going to have to make some phone calls.
4. Ed still hates his job and wants to quit. His old boss from Michigan, Dennis, called and asked him to come back. I am not sure what he is willing to offer, but if it will make Ed happier, then so be it. It's not like we have not lived apart before.
5. I am looking for a new job, too. It's not that I hate my job, I just want to use my law degree for what it was meant to be used for. I am sick of doing everyone else's research so that they can go to court and I just sit at my desk feeling useless.
6. Ed & I just returned from an 8 day vacation at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It was so much fun. We ate at Mesa Grill - Bobby Flay's restuarant, we swam with the dolphins, went snorkeling over a coral reef by Gilligan's Island - where they filmed the show, and so much other stuff. I seriously injured my left foot/ankle on the first day. It is still swollen and it has been about 10 days. Ed wants me to go to the doctor's but I am unwilling to subject myself to that. Besides, I start my training tomorrow night and have to be able to run on the treadmill.
Okay, I think that is it for now. We are planning on getting pictures up on Flickr. Probably will get some up there tonight.

Time
Ed fixed the sink!! Dishwasher is still dead, but we do not really need it right now. It will get replaced before we sell the place. We finally found a dining room table that we like. It will come in around the 19th, so that will be nice. We have not had a dining room table since we moved here last August. It has been tv trays for us, or eating outside on the deck when the weather is nice. Ed headed to Ft. Wayne again. Not sure if he will be gone for the day or until Friday.
We heard from mom in Japan. She is having a good time, but it is a culture shock. No american television and wine is scarce. Plus, she says that things are a lot more expensive than we thought. A small (thimble size) ice cream cost her $4!! We are looking forward to more pictures and another phone call.
Well, that is all for now.

It's been awhile
We spent Sunday with Mom & Dad in Lansing. Hanging out in the pool. Oh, we discovered Justice can definitely swim. He fell into the deep end and swam his way to the shallow end and up the steps. It was scary and then it was hilarious!!
Last Sunday, Ed & I rode our bikes on the bike path near our house. We ended up doing a round trip of just over 22 mile! I decided that I need to buy a padded seat, and maybe some padded bike shorts. It was a lot of fun, and I am pretty darn proud of us.
This weekend, Daddy & Andrea, and maybe Lori, are coming for a visit. Daddy had surgery on his elbow and has some time off so thought he would come down and recuperate with us. Andrea is getting ready for her sophmore year at WMU, so we will not see much of her after this weekend.
The kitchen sink broke. We have some plumbing issues, so thank goodness we have paper plates. Normally it would not be a huge deal, but the dishwasher is also broken. Oh, and we just had to replace the dryer. Sometimes, being a homeowner really sucks.
Good news??!!! I got promoted! I am now a Senior Legal Research Associate at LN.

It's Official...
My first golf lesson was great. I learned that I have a pretty natural back swing, unfortunately, the down swing sucks. So, I will be working on that before my next lesson.
Tomorrow, we are going canoeing/kayaking on the Little Miami River. It will be my first time.

The hits just keep on coming...
My Uncle Abe's cancer, which we thought was successfully treated, has gone into his bones. It is a type of bone cancer that does NOT respond to treatment. The doctors have given him about 16 months.
My dad is having surgery on his elbow. Apparently, he popped a tendon in his elbow. The surgery has been scheduled for Monday, August 13th.
My other Uncle, Arend, is getting shipped out with the Navy. He is going to Djibouti, in Africa. Now, I had no idea that we even had troops there. So, I am hoping to learn as much as I can. Therefore, I have a mission for everyone that reads this...please fill me in on what you know. I am freaking out. I cried for 20 minutes when I heard and I want to just keep crying. I know that this is probably safer than Iraq, but this still sucks!!!
So, needless to say, I am ready to curl up in a ball and forget that the world exists, even if for a few hours.
Ed's mom is heading to Japan. She is going to be teaching there for a few months. I am very excited for her. My friend, Kimmer, spent some time there and was nice enough to give mom a few pointers.
Oh, I am having my very first golf lesson on Saturday morning at 9am. I am looking forward to it. It will be nice to learn how to golf and then Ed & I can hit the courses together.

Newport Aquarium
On the 4th, Ed & I spent the day planting flowers in the front garden. It looks pretty good. In fact, as I was getting out of the car today, a lady walking down the sidewalk stopped me. She said she just wanted to let me know that the garden looks great. That made me feel really good.

June 27th
Kimmer is coming to visit this weekend!! It has been awhile since she has been down. We have not made any definite plans. If it rains, we are heading to Kentucky to the Newport Aquarium. That is the only thing that I am sure of. We may just veg out and watch some television, or head to Hobby Lobby or Michaels or this other scrapbook place that I found in Centerville.
Ed has been busy working. No rain days for him. Thank goodness he gets weekends off or he would be beat.
Okay, that is it for now. Sorry, not much to report.

It's been awhile...
Justice turned 2 years old on June 16th. he had a vet appointment and he weighs in at 91 pounds. We bought him a HUGE rawhide - pics to be added later.
Ed is in Fort Wayne, again. He left on Tuesday and will hopefully be home this weekend.
I (Stacy) have been sick. I missed 2 1/2 days of work and laid on the couch. It was a pretty rough cold. Had a strep test and it was negative, thank goodness. I am pretty sure it is something going around at work. I am not the first person to miss work because of these symptoms. My throat hurt so bad, I could barely talk and Ed went to Meijer at 5am on Saturday morning to get me popsicles. It was tough being sick without him around, especially with Justice wanting to go on walks every day.
We bought mountain bikes for eachother last weekend. We are looking forward to getting out and finding all of the biking trails in our area.

Family Weekend
We spent the day on Saturday at mom and dad's pool, hanging out with them and the Kurt family. The kids are getting so big. It is hard to believe that Nate is playing tackle football and little Emily is starting 1st grade in the fall. Maddie is turning into quite the young lady, with the teenager attitude right at the edges. That night, we headed over to Dave's and were able to visit with him. Grandpa & Grandma are visiting from Texas and Uncle Joe and Aunt Lea are up from Tennessee. It was really great to be around everyone and catch up.
We are sorry that we were not able to make it to Kalamazoo. The weekend seemed to just fly by and, before we knew it, it was time to head back to Ohio so that we could get back to work.
We did not take any pics, but Dave (Kurt) took alot of pics and I will try to get them from him to post here.

Worth it?
We had a pretty relaxing weekend. Ed was in Ft. Wayne working until Friday night. Saturday, I met up with some girls from work and learned how to knit. I know, a little hokey, but it will be nice to make my own scarves and hats for the fall/winter. Sunday, Ed want disc golfing. He met some new people and may actually join a league. It is nice seeing him get out and make friends. I know that it has been hard on him being away from friends and family.
On Monday, we headed out to John Bryan State Park. It was a great afternoon! Justice carried his new saddlebags like a champ. He carried the cell phone, car keys, treats and a collapsible water bowl. He also got to play in a river for the first time. He LOVES the water! We walked about 3 miles - we were there for about 3 1/2 hours. Then we came home and did yard work. I mowed the back yard and Ed handled weed whipping and trimming trees/bushes.
We are sorry that we missed everyone this weekend. We are planning to come visit as soon was we here when Grandpa and Grandma will be in town and when Dave will be returning from Iraq.

The Cincinnati Zoo
We started at the elephants and made our way around. The polar bears were huge, the manatees were amazing. I cannot believe how graceful manatees are, considering their size. They are HUGE! We saw white lions, white tigers, black bears, red hogs, flamingos (that were more white than pink) and so many other things. We look forward to taking visitors there. It is not too expensive, unless you want to eat. I think we will take a backpack with sandwiches and water on our next visit.
There are more pictures on flickr. And, of course, Stacy will be doing a scrapbook of our visit.

Weekend Plans
Looks like Ed is heading back to Ft. Wayne next week. Not sure how long he will be gone. However, with next weekend being a holiday, we are hoping he will be home Friday night or Saturday morning. At this time, we have no plans for Memorial Day weekend. Apparently, Ed's grandparents may be visiting from Texas. If that is the case, we will be heading to Lansing to hang out with family.

Random Thoughts
Gas prices - how high are they going to go? Is anyone else freaked out?
Grey's Anatomy - Did anyone else watch last night's episode and feel let down? Two hours, I could not wait to see it and then "that's it?" Okay, I was shocked that they killed Meredith's stepmom and to have her dad slap her and say "I trusted you!" That was more than I was expecting. The rest, not so great. WAit, that is a lie - George and Izzy in the elevator!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESS! However, I am getting a little tired of the wedding issues between Burke and Christina. Will Burke call it off? And we have a little disagreement here at work about Addison - at the end of the show, was she driving towards Seattle or the beach?
Life - is this what I want to be when I grow up? I am a lawyer, who does not practice. I keep thinking I should have done what I wanted to do first, go to medical school. Is it too late?
Job - Do I love it here? No. Do I like it? sometimes. Why am I here? Benefits, steady paycheck, no work to bring home, co-workers that I do love. What am I doing about it? nothing right now, I still owe them 1 year on my contract.
Have you had enough? I have, for now.

Finally, spring is here!
We went out to dinner - before we weighed ourselves, of course. Decided to try a new wings place - BC Roosters. It was okay, Fricker's is better. But, BC Roosters has this deep-fried mac-n-cheese that is to die for! After dinner, we headed to Lowe's, for our quickest trip there ever - we were in and out in about 15 minutes. We knew what we wanted - a grill that we had seen there before that has granite countertops. We put it together on Saturday and I got grilled burgers for dinner.
RED WINGS ROCK!!!!!!!!!! They beat Calgary last night to advance in the playoffs!!!

Family Visit
I learned a few things. My baby sister is planning on going to South Africa to study and then is joining the Peace Corps after graduating from college. I am totally freaking out!!!!!!!! South Africa???!!!!! She is very excited about it, so I am going to be as supportive as I can. It is so hard to realize that she is has grown up into a woman. I want the little girl back who used to try and sneak under my bedroom door to spend time with me.
We ended up taking the girls to the mall on Saturday. We went to Fairfield Commons, a mall that Ed & I had not yet been to. It was a great idea! The girls did A LOT of shopping. I think we were there for about 5 hours. Ed bought some truffles at the Godiva store - I won a free chocolate bar!! I had a great time, and hope the girls did to.

Weird Weather
Andrea and Kari will be here on Friday!!! Not really sure what to do with 2 19 year olds, but we will figure it out when they get here. Hopefully, they will have some ideas of what they want to do.

Lately
Ed surprised me Sunday with tickets to see Blue Man Group in concert. They were at the Nutter Center at Wright State University. It is about 20-30 minutes away, depending on traffic. THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, we have no pictures. If you ever get a chance to see them, do so!
Ed is in Ft. Wayne, again. Not sure how long they will be gone - could be one day or 3 days.
